How it works

Four steps, and three of them
happen at the airport.

BagShield runs on the paper trail the airline already creates. Keep what they hand you at the counter, send it to us, and we take over from there — tracking the bag and pushing the carrier to expedite it.

    Buy before you fly

Purchase before your first flight departs. It can't be added between connections or after you land.

    Before departure
  2. 2

Check your bag, keep the receipt

The airline tags your bag and hands you a tag receipt. That receipt is your proof the bag was accepted.

  3. 3

    File with the airline

If the bag doesn't arrive, report it before you leave the terminal and write down the file-reference number.

    We take it from there

Submit your report and the airline's paperwork — two minutes on your phone. From that point we're negotiating with the carrier on your behalf.

Two deadlines that matter

Most bags turn up.
This is for the ones that don't.

Airlines reunite the overwhelming majority of delayed bags within a few days. There are only two clocks you have to watch — one is yours, one is the policy's.

  1. 0h

    Your flight lands

The bag isn't there. File a delayed-baggage report with the airline before you leave the terminal and get the file-reference number.

  2. 24h

    Your deadline

Submit your report to BagShield with the airline's documentation. Miss this window and the report can't be processed.

  3. 96h

    The benefit trigger

Still missing four days after landing? The delay qualifies for the fixed benefit at the level you bought, under the terms of the policy.

Pricing

Pick the payout.
The price follows.

One flat fee per trip. The only thing that changes between levels is how much you're paid for each eligible delayed bag — and the benefit runs for up to two bags per passenger.

Benefits are payable per eligible delayed bag, limited to two bags per passenger, and are not payable more than once for the same bag. Coverage, eligibility, benefits, exclusions and limitations are governed by the official BagShield policy.

What qualifies

Six conditions.
That's the whole test.

BagShield is written for checked bags the airline accepted and then failed to deliver on time. If all six of these are true, the delay is eligible.

A traveler holding a boarding pass beside a BagShield-tagged suitcase at airline check-in
  • It's a checked bag

Written for baggage that goes in the hold — not carry-ons or personal items that stay with you in the cabin.

  • The airline accepted and tagged it

The bag was taken at check-in and issued an airline baggage-tag number. Keep the receipt.

  • You reported it to the airline first

The airline issues the file-reference number every report is built on. No reference number, no report.

  • You told us within 24 hours

Your report and the airline's documentation must reach BagShield within 24 hours of the flight landing.

  • Every leg is covered

Domestic and international both work — but each flight the bag is tagged for must be covered by a BagShield service.

  • Ninety-six hours have passed

The bag is still missing four days after your flight arrived. Up to two bags per passenger qualify, so the benefit can pay twice over.

  • BagShield is baggage-delay protection. It sits alongside the airline's own responsibility to find and return your bag — it doesn't replace it. Coverage, eligibility, benefits, exclusions and limitations are governed in full by the official BagShield policy, provided at purchase.

What to keep

Everything you need
fits in your pocket.

Nearly every denied baggage claim in this category comes down to one missing document or one missed window. This is the complete list.

  • Your BagShield confirmation
  • The airline baggage-tag receipt
  • The airline file-reference number
  • The airline's written delay report
  • Your flight and arrival details

Beyond the payout

We deal with the airline.
You get on with your trip.

A payout isn't the only thing you want — you want the bag. Once your report is in, BagShield doesn't leave you alone with the carrier. We negotiate on your behalf and press to get things moving.

  • We negotiate on your behalf

You shouldn't be the one sitting on hold with a baggage hotline in a city you just landed in. We take the conversation with the carrier off your plate.

  • We push to expedite

Our job is to keep your file moving rather than letting it sit in a queue — because the outcome you actually want is the bag in your hands.

  • Thirty years of doing this

Consumer Priority Service has administered protection programs for more than three decades. You're not the first person we've gone to bat for.

Advocacy and coordination are services BagShield provides alongside the policy benefit. The airline remains responsible for locating and returning your baggage under its own rules and applicable law. Benefit eligibility is governed by the official BagShield policy.

File a claim

Report a delayed bag
in six short steps.

Everything here comes from paperwork you already have: your BagShield certificate, your baggage tag receipt, and the report the airline gave you at the baggage desk. Two minutes.

Report to the airline first. You need the airline's file reference number before you can file with us — we can't obtain it on your behalf. Your report and the airline's paperwork must reach BagShield within 24 hours of landing.

1

Flight arrival information

Complete these exactly as they appear on the claim you filed with the airline.

2

Mishandled baggage information

When you filed with the airline you were given a file reference number and one tag number per bag. Enter them here.

3

Your BagShield certificate

Your certificate number was emailed to you at purchase. It looks like BS-XXXXXX.

4

Additional baggage information

Anything that helps us identify the bag when we're on the phone with the airline — colour, brand, distinguishing marks, what was inside, where you think it went.

5

Additional contacts optional

Anyone else who should get status updates — a travel companion, an assistant, the agent who booked the trip.

6

Documents & confirmation

Attach the report the airline gave you when you filed. Reports without it can't be processed.

Reports must reach BagShield within 24 hours of landing.
